JERUSALEM, March 3,  (V7N) – Israel said it would reopen a crossing into Gaza on Tuesday to allow for the “gradual entry of humanitarian aid” into the territory.

The Kerem Shalom crossing was closed Saturday when Israel and the United States began striking Iran, sparking reprisals from Tehran. The reopening decision was made “in accordance with a security assessment,” said COGAT, the Israeli defence ministry body overseeing civil affairs in the Palestinian territories.

Kerem Shalom, controlled by Israel, sits at the intersection of Gaza, Israel and Egypt. Israel had announced the closure of all Gaza crossings, including Rafah, as a security measure. Rafah, the only gateway not passing through Israel, reopened for people on February 2 after nearly two years of Israeli control during the war with Hamas.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump warned Monday that his attack on Iran could extend beyond a month, as the war spread with Israel bombarding Lebanon while Tehran targeted Israel and Gulf states hosting US bases.
