Tehran, Mar 04 (V7N) — Tributes have begun pouring into the streets of Tehran following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as authorities announced a three-day state farewell ceremony in the capital.

According to Iranian state media, the formal program will begin on Wednesday (March 4) at Imam Khamenei Square, where supporters are expected to gather in large numbers. The mourning ceremony is scheduled to continue for three days.

The announcement comes amid continued airstrikes across various parts of Iran, including Tehran. On Wednesday, Israel claimed it had launched a new “widespread attack,” targeting missile launch sites, air defense systems, and other strategic infrastructure.

Iranian authorities said Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israeli strike on Saturday (February 28). The development has significantly escalated tensions in the region.

Meanwhile, Iran International, citing Iranian officials, reported that Khamenei’s son has been selected as the country’s new Supreme Leader. However, there has been no official confirmation from Tehran regarding the succession.

On the Israeli side, Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that any successor who continues policies aimed at threatening Israel or the United States would face direct consequences. He stated that any future leader who “plans to destroy Israel or threatens the United States” would be “clearly targeted.”

The rapidly evolving situation has heightened global concern, as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation in an already volatile region.
