According to police, an explosion at a fireworks factory north of Bangkok on Wednesday, January 17, claimed the lives of about twenty people in Thailand. Despite searching the area, no survivors had been found.

Mid-afternoon in Suphan Buri province, some 120 km (74.56 miles) north of Bangkok, the incident occurred; the cause was not immediately known, according to police.


Nattapat Suwanprateep, the provincial governor, expressed the challenges faced by rescue teams, stating, "We are unable to determine if every worker died. They haven't discovered any survivors.".

According to an initial inquiry, as stated by the authorities, the number of fatalities stands at 20, accompanied by numerous individuals who sustained injuries.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who was attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, was briefed on the explosion and promptly emphasized the need for a swift and thorough investigation. In a statement from the Prime Minister's office, it was revealed that Srettha Thavisin has ordered an inspection of the facility to determine whether the fireworks plant was operating lawfully and if negligence played a role in the explosion.
