NY, July 17 (V7N) - The United Nations has urged the government of Bangladesh to ensure the protection of demonstrators from any form of threat or violence.

In particular, the UN highlighted the need for special protection for those who may be protesting peacefully, such as young people, children, and individuals with disabilities.

“Peaceful demonstration is a fundamental human right, and governments must protect those rights,” stated Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General, during a regular briefing in New York.

Addressing a question, Dujarric emphasized that the UN is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh with concern. "People everywhere, including Bangladesh, have the right to demonstrate peacefully," he asserted.
