Kolkata, August 21 — West Bengal remains gripped by widespread protests following the brutal rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata. Demonstrations erupted across the state on Wednesday, as outraged citizens and political groups demanded justice for the victim and called for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation.

From Siliguri in North Bengal to Diamond Harbor in the south, thousands of ordinary people took to the streets, voicing their anger and demanding severe punishment for those responsible. The protests have not been confined to Kolkata, spreading rapidly to various districts across the state.

In Kolkata, Congress leaders organized a protest at Boi Para College Street, with prominent figures like former MP Pradeep Bhattacharya and former MLA Abdul Mannan joining the demonstration. Meanwhile, state BJP leaders, led by opposition leader Shubhendu Adhikari, held a sit-in at Shyambazar, intensifying the pressure on the state government.

Medical students from both public and private institutions also joined the protest, staging a roadblock from CGO Bhavan to Health Bhavan in Kolkata. The demonstrations turned violent as clashes erupted between protesters and the police, adding to the tension in the city.

The tragic incident has sparked a wave of anger and demands for accountability, with many calling for the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the handling of the situation. The protests show no sign of abating as the state continues to reel from the shock and outrage of the crime.
