BEIRUT, Aug 25 (v7n)- Hezbollah launched a significant attack on Israel early Sunday, with hundreds of rockets and drones targeting the country. In response, Israel's military deployed around 100 jets to strike Lebanon, aiming to thwart what could have been a larger attack. This marked one of the most intense clashes in over ten months of ongoing border conflict.

The confrontation comes amidst rising tensions in the region, particularly following the assassination of senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr. Hezbollah's leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, stated that the group's barrage was a response to Shukr's killing and hinted at further retaliation if necessary. Despite the escalation, both Israel and Hezbollah have signaled a desire to avoid further intensification, though more strikes may be on the horizon.

The conflict also saw U.S. involvement, with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordering the presence of two aircraft carrier strike groups in the Middle East to bolster U.S. military presence. Meanwhile, in Gaza, the Israeli offensive continued, and ceasefire talks in Cairo failed to yield an agreement.

This situation risks drawing in more regional powers, including Hezbollah's backer Iran and Israel's ally, the United States, potentially escalating into a broader conflict.
