Ecuador recently purchased military equipment from the United States. The Putin administration has taken such steps in protest.

Ecuador was the main supplier of bananas and papayas to Russia. However, due to the tension between the two countries, the Kremlin withdrew from this decision. They started importing bananas from India.

Russian Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service watchdog Rosselkhoznadzhar said the first shipment of Indian bananas arrived in Russia in January and another shipment is expected to arrive in late February. The organization also said that the volume of Indian banana exports to Russia will increase.

Rosselkhoznadzor said that India has shown interest in supplying not only bananas, but also other fruits like mangoes, pineapples, papayas and guavas to the Russian market.

Moscow issued the suspension after a deal in which Ecuador agreed to hand over Russian-made military equipment to the United States in exchange for $200 million worth of sophisticated U.S. equipment. Ecuador refers to Russian military equipment as 'Ukrainian and Russian scrap metal', i.e. old, unwanted equipment.
