New York, Sep 12 (V7N)- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed strong disapproval of the ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing the situation as "completely unacceptable." Speaking in an interview with Reuters on Wednesday, Guterres condemned the absence of accountability for the killing of aid workers, including UN staff, in the region.

Guterres noted that approximately 300 aid workers have lost their lives in Gaza, two-thirds of them being UN personnel, as reported by Deutsche Welle. In addition, local officials estimate that over 41,000 Palestinians have died since the conflict began.

The Secretary-General also criticized Israel's retaliation against Hamas, stating that the actions represent "a very dramatic violation of international human rights law" and expressed concern about the lack of civilian protection in the conflict.

Guterres further revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had not responded to his calls since the beginning of the Gaza war. He labelled the current state of global affairs as "chaotic," emphasizing the urgency for accountability and protection of civilians in Gaza.
