Savar, Jan 09, (V7N) ― A tragic incident occurred on the Dhaka-Aricha highway on the night of Thursday, January 9, when an ambulance and two buses were involved in a fiery crash. Four members of the same family, traveling in the ambulance, were killed in the blaze, and at least seven others sustained injuries. The fire was eventually brought under control after nearly an hour of efforts by two fire service units.
The accident took place near the Fulbaria Police Town area of Savar, around 2 a.m. According to highway police, an ambulance collided with a passenger bus from behind, sparking a fire that quickly spread to the vehicles. A second bus nearby was also caught in the flames.
Fire service teams responded promptly and managed to extinguish the fire after about an hour of intense effort. However, by that time, all three vehicles had been severely burned.
During the operation, four charred bodies were recovered by fire service personnel. The victims’ identities remain unknown, though it is suspected that the fire may have originated from an explosion in the ambulance's gas cylinder.
Meherul Islam, the in-charge of Savar Fire Service, confirmed the recovery of the four bodies, adding that further details will be provided later. Savar Highway Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shoukatul Alam stated that due to the extent of the burns, the identities of the victims could not be confirmed at the scene. The bodies have been sent to Sohrawardy Medical College Hospital for identification and autopsy.
Authorities are continuing investigations to confirm the cause of the explosion and identify the victims.
