Mymensingh, Sept 14 (V7N) – Two people were killed and 12 others injured when two passenger buses collided head-on Saturday morning on the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka upazila. The accident took place near the Tafrida Cotton Mill area of Bharadoba.

The deceased were identified as Md. Sharif, 21, the driver’s assistant of a Shyamoli Bangla bus, son of Nurul Amin of Karoi Kanda village in Haluaghat, and Nirab, 15, the driver’s assistant of an Ayan Riyan bus, son of Aminul Islam of Patgudam in Mymensingh town.

Police and witnesses said the collision occurred when a Netrokona-bound Ayan Riyan bus from Dhaka reached Bharadoba and collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus from Haluaghat. Both helpers died on the spot, and at least 12 passengers sustained serious injuries. Locals, along with police and firefighters, rescued the injured and sent them to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex and other nearby hospitals. The bodies were recovered and sent to the highway police station. Both buses were seized.

Atiqur Rahman, senior station officer of Bhaluka Fire Service, said repair work was ongoing on a portion of the Dhaka-bound lane near Bharadoba, forcing vehicles to use the same Mymensingh-bound lane. At the time of the accident, the Shyamoli bus was traveling against traffic and crashed head-on with the Ayan Riyan bus.
