RAJSHAHI, Mar 18, (V7N) — Rajshahi City Corporation has inaugurated a 15‑day crash program to control mosquitoes across the city, resuming fogger machine spraying after a long pause.

The program was formally launched Wednesday at 12:30 pm in the Padma residential area, where RASIC Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton sprayed fogger machines in local sewers. Officials said spraying will cover five wards each morning, completing two full cycles across all 30 wards.

Speaking to reporters, Administrator Riton said, “Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has given me the responsibility as administrator to implement the plan he has taken to build a new Bangladesh. We will work relentlessly to implement the Prime Minister’s plan. Rajshahi will be further developed and development work will be implemented according to the needs of the people.”

He added that the program would continue during Ramadan, with daily morning spraying, and would be extended in the future. Drain cleaning activities are also scheduled ahead of the monsoon season to prevent waterlogging, while work to activate the Rajshahi Hi‑Tech Park is underway.

Officials noted that the mosquito control initiative is part of broader civic service improvements. “Everyone must sincerely fulfill their responsibility to keep the city clean,” Riton said, announcing that wards achieving success in cleanliness will be rewarded.

The event was attended by Chief Cleaning Officer Sheikh Mamun Dollar, Cleaning Officer (Mosquito) Zubair Hossain Moon, Chandrima Thana BNP Convener Md. Faizul Haque Fahi, Member Secretary Monirul Islam Joni, Shah Makhdum Thana BNP Member Secretary Md. Nasim Khan, and other local leaders.

Residents welcomed the initiative, saying the resumption of fogger spraying would help reduce mosquito‑borne diseases and improve public health in the city.
