Bhola, Mar 18 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued more than 100 passengers after a passenger launch became stranded in shallow waters following a strong storm on the Dhaka–Hatia route.
The rescue operation was carried out on Tuesday evening, with all passengers safely brought to Bhola’s Elisha Ghat.
According to passengers, the launch lost control during a अचानक storm late at night and became stuck in shallow waters near Char Bhairavi, causing panic onboard. The passengers later sought assistance from authorities.
Upon receiving the information, a rescue team from Kaliganj Station under the Coast Guard South Zone (Bhola) rushed to the scene and conducted the operation under the leadership of Contingent Commander Kajal Kumar Nath. All stranded passengers were safely evacuated.
The launch had departed from Sadarghat in Dhaka on Monday evening bound for Hatia. It became stuck near Elisha Ghat later that night. Although the tide rose the following day, the vessel could not be moved due to insufficient water depth. After hours of waiting, the Coast Guard successfully completed the rescue.
