At Naikhongdia Point on the Teknaf-Saint Martin maritime route in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, Kamal Hossain of Saint Martin's speed boat capsized. Local fisherman were called to the scene and managed to save 19 people, including 3 unconscious toddlers.
Among them, 7 are masons of Teknaf and 12 are local residents.
Besides, two other speedboat drivers and assistants. Mujibur Rahman, chairman of Saint Martin's Union Parishad, told Voice7 News that the accident took place at Naikhongdia area of Teknaf-Saint Martin sea route on Friday at 12:30 p.m. 19 passengers including 3 children were rescued in this accident. On receiving information, the passengers, a speedboat and local fishermen reached the spot and rescued the people floating in the sea.
Khurshed Alam, President of Saint Martin Speedboat Owners Cooperative Association and member of UP, said that the speedboat that had an accident does not belong to our association and has no permission from the upazila administration.
In this regard Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md Adnan Chowdhury said, the boat was not my permission, as far as I know it is not even part of the owner association in Saint Martin, action will be taken against them.
