An unexpectedly delicious surprise has come in Rajshahi's Fruit market. This season, litchis, the much sought-after summer fruit, are being sold for per hundred Tk 300.

The litchi season in Rajshahi has begun with a sense of excitement and a little bit of anxiety. The new arrival of litchis, which command a premium as a unique delight, adorns the city's markets, from Saheb Bazaar to Shalbaghan Bazaar.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, 3,800 metric tonnes of crop are anticipated to be produced from the 530 hectares under cultivation. Nonetheless, the erratic environment makes one concerned about these objectives' realisation.

In Rajshahi's Saheb Bazar on Tuesday, May 7, Helal Uddin brought litchi. He said, "These are litchi from Paba Upazila's Bhugaril area." The year long, they are the first to appear in the litchis, it's the flavour is sweet. There was a set price of 300 taka for 100 litchi on the first day.

"I brought 500 litchis today," he added. A lot of people are purchasing the new fruit that is available in the market. In a matter of hours, 300 were sold. I'm hoping that the litchi were all sold  soon.

According to Shafiqul Islam, the Rajshahi Fruit Research Institute's Chief Scientific Officer, some native types of litchis mature early. Eating them is not problematic. They're also rather tasty. However, it will still be a while until the actual litchi show up. Usually, these litchis are only available in late May or early June.
