Jute farmers in the district are pleased with the strong yield and favorable prices in local markets during the ongoing harvesting season.

Currently, the farmers are enthusiastically engaged in cutting and processing jute as the harvest is in full swing.

Newly harvested jute has started appearing in local markets, and both farmers and agricultural officials are optimistic about surpassing the production target due to healthy crop growth and a larger cultivation area than anticipated.

The price of jute is ranging from Taka 3,000 to Taka 3,200 per maund (40 kg). Traders from various districts are purchasing jute according to their needs and transporting it to different jute mills across the country.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Panchagarh, jute was cultivated on 10,000 hectares of land in the district this year, with a production target of 20.18 bales.

Farmer Selim from Sabouspara village shared that he cultivated jute on one bigha of land, producing around eight maunds per bigha (33 decimals) and earning Taka 14,000 after covering all expenses.

Abdul Motin, Deputy Director of the DAE in Panchagarh, told BSS that jute production has been strong this year due to favorable weather conditions. He added that the department provided training on modern technologies to help farmers boost production. Additionally, farmers received free jute seeds and fertilizers from the department.
