DHAKA, July 11, (V7N) – Health officials today reported 138 new cases of dengue in the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of cases recorded this year across Bangladesh beyond the 14,000 mark.

A Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement confirmed that of the 138 fresh cases, 60 patients were hospitalized in the Barishal division, which continues to be significantly impacted by the mosquito-borne disease.

Breaking down the remaining new admissions, 28 patients were hospitalized in the Chattogram division, 19 in Dhaka division (excluding the capital), 24 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) areas, and one in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas. Additionally, 3 cases were recorded in Khulna and 3 in Rajshahi division.

Since the beginning of the dengue onslaught this year, Bangladesh has witnessed a total of 54 deaths, with the disease inflicting 14,069 individuals.

The DGHS also reported a positive trend in recoveries, with 153 patients discharged from various hospitals nationwide after their recovery within the last 24 hours. For comparison, last year's dengue outbreak claimed 575 lives and affected a total of 101,214 people across the country.
