Dhaka, Oct 07 (V7N) — Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mainul Islam assured that there is no threat of militant activity during the upcoming Durga Puja festivities. Speaking to reporters after visiting Dhakeshwari Temple in Dhaka on Monday afternoon, he stated that security measures are in place to prevent any potential threats.
“There is no opportunity for militant attacks or activities during the Puja. However, if any attempt is made to disrupt the festivities, immediate action will be taken,” the IGP said.
He also detailed the comprehensive security arrangements for Durga Puja. The deployment of Ansar-VDP, specialized police forces, and the armed forces will ensure safety at puja mandaps across the country. Additionally, CCTV cameras are being installed at all venues, and 24-hour volunteer services will be in place for extra vigilance.
To combat the spread of rumours, the IGP emphasized the role of cyber surveillance. He also noted that the police are prepared through the national emergency service, Triple Nine, and there is ongoing surveillance in every district and upazila.
The IGP further mentioned that police officers who failed to report for duty after August 5 have been summoned to issue formal apologies.
