Ukhiya, August 11 (V7N) – In a rare and heartening event, a group of wild elephants along with their young was spotted moving peacefully through the dense hilly forests of Ukhiya Range on Sunday morning. The sighting, captured by drone footage, revealed about 15 to 20 elephants walking slowly beneath the green canopy, with sunlight filtering through the leaves and casting a golden glow across the scene.
The herd's calm movements and the playful behavior of the calves created a serene and picturesque natural moment, delighting both locals and forest officials. It marks one of the few times in recent years that such a large group of wild elephants has been observed so deep within the forest.
Forest officials consider the event a hopeful sign of ecological stability and the health of the forest ecosystem. Imdadul Hasan Roni, Officer at Dochhari Beat (BIT), confirmed that the elephants are staying well within the forest area and are not approaching human settlements. “There is no current risk of conflict, as the herd appears to be avoiding localities,” he said.
Acting Ukhiya Range Officer Abdul Mannan explained that during dry seasons, elephants often move from higher elevations to lower areas in search of food and water. “This group, however, is currently roaming within forest territory, which is encouraging,” he added.
Local communities and forest authorities have jointly urged the public to remain alert and avoid disturbing the animals to ensure their safe movement. The sighting has raised renewed awareness about the importance of preserving elephant habitats and maintaining peaceful coexistence between humans and wildlife.
Forest officials plan to continue monitoring the herd’s activity using drone surveillance and on-ground tracking to ensure the safety of both elephants and nearby residents.
