Dhaka, Oct 24 (V7N) – Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has stated that the government will maintain its firm stance on dismantling market syndicates and is working to establish alternative agricultural markets to reduce their influence.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh’s (TCB) mobile truck sales operation in 50 locations across Dhaka, held at Dipika Mor in Begunbari on Thursday, Bhuiyan emphasized that middlemen and syndicates are key drivers of price hikes. He said the government is committed to all necessary measures to break these syndicates in the long term, with a task force already operating in major cities and local areas.

Bhuiyan highlighted the importance of reducing the role of middlemen between producers and consumers and encouraged private institutions adopting social business models to directly deliver goods from entrepreneurs to consumers, assuring them of full government support.

As part of the government’s strategy to tackle rising prices, plans for alternative agricultural markets are being developed, allowing farmers to directly supply their produce, giving consumers the chance to buy goods without intermediaries.

From October 24, TCB will run its mobile truck sales in 50 locations across Dhaka and 20 locations in Chittagong, providing access to goods for both family cardholders and non-cardholders. Consumers can purchase 5kg of rice, 2kg of lentils, and 2 litres of soybean oil for Tk470 at designated TCB truck points.

The initiative will continue until November 30, with the possibility of an extension if inflationary pressures persist.
