Dhaka, Oct 26 (V7N)- The National Committee for the Protection of Oil, Gas, Minerals, Power, and Ports has called for the annulment of all power and energy agreements established during former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s tenure. The committee further urged the review of upcoming contracts and demanded stringent penalties for any malpractices in the energy sector.

The demands were voiced at a meeting held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity Auditorium yesterday. The committee also advocated for the cancellation of the Rampal power project due to environmental concerns and requested that power imports from India's Adani Group be halted. Additionally, they urged the government to reduce domestic oil and gas prices.

Committee member secretary Anu Muhammad stated, "Full ownership of our resources must be secured, and gas extraction should align with our national capabilities."

Energy expert Dr. Shamsul Alam noted, "By ensuring transparency in coal imports, the country could save approximately Tk 6,000 crore annually. Furthermore, the power sector could see savings of up to Tk 40,000 crore."
