Dhaka, Nov 30 (V7N) – Professor Asif Nazrul, Law Adviser to the Interim Government, stated on Saturday that certain individuals in Bangladesh are engaged in adapting Indian screenplays, an activity he believes aims to destabilize the country, create divisions among protesters, and weaken the interim government under the guise of objective criticism.
He made these remarks during a memorial meeting on the July uprising titled "Smritir Minar: Gono Abhyuthan-2024," held at Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall, Jatiya Press Club. The event was organized by Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and chaired by BSS Managing Director and Chief Editor Mahbub Morshed.
Dr. Nazrul urged everyone to focus on truth and avoid character assassination, saying, "Spreading misinformation, propaganda, blaming others, oppression, or torture were weapons of fascist forces. Our weapons are truth, unity, and the elimination of repression and discrimination."
Addressing allegations that he held meetings with Indian allies in Dhaka cantonment on August 3 and 4 before the fall of the Awami League regime, he categorically denied them as fabricated.
Clarifying his activities during those days, Dr. Nazrul said, "On August 3, I attended a student movement rally at Shaheed Minar until 9 PM alongside Mahbub Morshed and others. Later, I stayed at Professor Mustafa Mamun's residence on Dhaka University's Fuller Road after learning I might be arrested or killed. On August 4, I attended a program with online activists in the evening, where I openly discussed the risks of arrest or death. I stayed there until 10 PM before returning to Professor Mamun's house for the night."
He also emphasized the need for unity among all stakeholders to sustain the achievements of the uprising and fulfill the aspirations of its martyrs. "Historically, many revolutions, such as the Arab Spring in Tunisia and Syria, failed to achieve their long-term goals. We must honor the dreams of the July uprising martyrs by building a truly independent and sovereign Bangladesh," he said.
Other speakers at the event included Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, writer Rakhal Raha, poet and activist Ferdous Ara Rumi, BSS board members Fazlul Huq and Nure Alam Masud, and Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Muhammad Rashed Khan. The discussion was moderated by BSS Special Correspondent Didarul Alam.
