Dhaka, Jan 30 (V7N) –A group of dismissed policemen and their family members staged a protest by blocking the road in front of Shikkha Bhaban in the capital on Thursday noon, demanding reinstatement to their jobs.
The protesters had marched from the police headquarters towards the Secretariat, but were stopped by law enforcement near Shikkha Bhaban. In response, they sat on the road and continued their demonstration.
The dismissed officers claim they were removed from service due to political vendetta under the Awami League government.
They further allege that Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, the former home affairs advisor of the interim government, had previously promised to reinstate them.
Speaking at the protest, some of the former policemen said that they had no choice but to take to the streets.
They warned that if they were not reinstated through an executive order, they would announce stricter programs in the coming days.
The group had also gathered in front of the police headquarters on Wednesday, raising the same demands.
