Dhaka, Mar 11 (V7N) – An eight-year-old girl, who was raped at her sister's house in Magura, is currently receiving life support at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. The child was transferred to CMH on March 8 in critical condition after being initially admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
According to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on March 10, the child arrived at CMH completely unconscious, with her vital signs critical but stable. Her blood pressure was 120/70 mm (with cardiac support), her heart rate was 118 per minute, and her oxygen level was 96 percent. However, the child had suffered severe injuries, including a deep wound to the front of her neck and signs of abuse on other parts of her body.
In response to her condition, a high-level medical board was formed, consisting of specialists from various departments including pediatric surgery, obstetrics, plastic surgery, neurology, and anesthesiology. The board immediately ordered essential diagnostic tests, including CT scans of the abdomen, chest, and brain, as well as a chest X-ray and abdominal ultrasound.
The child was diagnosed with pneumothorax (RT), ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome), and diffuse cerebral edema. Following the diagnosis, appropriate treatment was started, and the child continues to be monitored under the standard ICU protocol. Currently, the child remains on life support.
Earlier, Abdul Kalam Azad Majumdar, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, informed that the child’s condition had slightly improved, noting that she had shown some movement in her eyelids. He also mentioned that the oxygen supply to the child’s brain had been disrupted due to suffocation, and water had accumulated in her brain, but could not be removed. However, the accumulated air in her chest had been successfully released, and doctors remain hopeful that the child’s condition will improve further in the coming days.
The case has drawn widespread attention, with the child’s mother filing a formal complaint against several family members, accusing them of the horrific crime. The mother claims that the child was visiting her sister’s house on March 5 when the rape occurred. In connection with the incident, the Magura court has granted remand to the child’s sister-in-law for seven days and to her husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law for five days each.
The community and authorities are closely monitoring the case, which highlights the growing concerns over the safety of children and women in the country.
