Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury announced on Thursday that Nordic countries have pledged to collaborate closely with Bangladesh to enhance cooperation for a greener and more resilient future.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Nordic Day commemoration function held at Hotel Radisson in Dhaka, Minister Chowdhury commended the Nordic nations for their exemplary commitment to environmental stewardship. He highlighted Bangladesh's continuous efforts to create a sustainable future.
The event celebrated the rich cultures and collaborative partnerships of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, symbolizing the deep-rooted friendship and collaborative spirit between Bangladesh and the Nordic countries. Minister Chowdhury emphasized that this partnership is founded on mutual respect, shared values, and a commitment to sustainability and prosperity.
Reflecting on historical significance, he highlighted the recognition of Bangladesh's independence by the Nordic countries on February 4, 1972, which laid the foundation for a relationship based on solidarity and support.
Minister Chowdhury underscored the alignment between the Nordic Council's vision to make the region the most sustainable and integrated system globally and Bangladesh's aspirations for a sustainable future. He praised the Nordic region's breathtaking natural landscapes and shared commitment to sustainability within the partnership.
Outlining diverse sectors of collaboration including climate resilience, technological advancement, education, and health, Minister Chowdhury emphasized joint efforts to create a more sustainable and equitable future for both nations.
He expressed excitement about the endless possibilities for continued collaboration, aiming to deepen cooperation in addressing global challenges such as climate change and fostering innovation and cultural exchange.
Highlighting the friendship between Bangladesh and the Nordic countries as a beacon of hope, Minister Chowdhury stressed the power of unity in building a better future for all.
Ambassadors Alexandra Berg von Linde of Sweden, Espen Rikter-Svendsen of Norway, Christian Brix Moller of Denmark, and Dr. Tito Gronow, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in New Delhi, also spoke at the occasion.
The event was attended by ambassadors, high commissioners, political leaders, representatives from international organizations, government officials, and members of society.
