Dhaka, Apr 30 (V7N) — Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has said that in the current global climate, not preparing for war is equivalent to suicide. He urged the armed forces to maintain the highest level of readiness to safeguard national sovereignty.
Speaking at the annual exercise of the Bangladesh Air Force held in Kurmitola, Dhaka, on Wednesday (April 29), Dr. Yunus emphasized the importance of strategic preparedness amid escalating global tensions.
“I am fundamentally an anti-war individual. We do not wish for war to erupt anywhere in the world. But in reality, we live in a world constantly surrounded by the threat of war,” he said. “In such a scenario, remaining unprepared is a suicidal decision. If we must prepare, we cannot do it half-heartedly.”
He praised the modernization and technological progress of the Bangladesh Air Force, noting that the force is aligning itself with global standards and has demonstrated self-reliance through the use of indigenous technology. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to equipping the force with cutting-edge technology and maintaining technical and professional excellence.
“We must remain vigilant to protect our sovereignty. Our boys and girls will draw courage from this readiness,” Dr. Yunus added.
Touching upon the current economic situation, he said the economy is in a fragile state due to widespread corruption under the previous government. “In such times, overall national preparedness boosts our confidence as a nation.”
The event was attended by members of the Army, Navy, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Police, and Fire Service, showcasing inter-agency coordination and joint operational capability.
