Dhaka, May 18 (V7N) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated efforts to reactivate a corruption case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina concerning alleged irregularities in the establishment of a barge-mounted power plant.

On Sunday (May 18), a six-judge appellate bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Justice Ashfaqul Islam, fixed July 15 for the hearing of the ACC’s application to revive the case.

The case was originally filed on July 2, 2007, by the ACC against seven individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and Toufiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury. On March 3, 2008, the High Court questioned the legality of the case proceedings but later declared the case illegal and dismissed it on February 13, 2011, after which the ACC withdrew the case.

Nearly 19 years later, the ACC has now taken steps to reinstate the case.
