Dhaka, July 1 (V7N) — United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has expressed support for Bangladesh’s ongoing reform initiatives and the plan to hold national elections early next year, according to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
 
The information was shared in a statement issued by the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s Office following a telephone conversation between Professor Yunus and Secretary Rubio on Monday evening.
 
According to the statement, the two leaders discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including U.S.-Bangladesh trade relations, the country’s ongoing reform process, the roadmap to democratic transition, the upcoming general elections, and humanitarian support for the Rohingya refugees.
 
The U.S. Department of State also confirmed that the discussion touched on strengthening bilateral economic ties and enhancing security cooperation.
 
Rubio expressed optimism about the democratic transition process and reiterated the U.S. government's support for free, fair, and timely elections in Bangladesh. His endorsement of the reforms and electoral timeline was seen as a significant gesture of international backing for the transitional government led by Professor Yunus.
 
The conversation highlights growing international engagement with Bangladesh’s political and economic roadmap and underscores Washington’s continued interest in promoting democratic governance and regional stability.
