Dhaka, Aug 04 (V7N) – The Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) revealed in its latest research report that political partisanship continues to dominate, while key reforms in the judiciary, police, and administration remain unfulfilled. The findings were shared during a press conference held in Dhanmondi on Monday.
According to the report, the interim government’s unclear roadmap for upcoming elections has fostered conditions ripe for political unrest. The study found no significant improvement in the lives of common citizens; employment opportunities remain scarce, and poverty levels have increased. The culture of political party-related occupation and extortion continues unabated.
The research further indicated that media freedom has not been guaranteed during the interim government's tenure, reflecting ongoing challenges in the sector.
The TIB report raised concerns over the appointments of judges and prosecutors in the International Crimes Tribunal, questioning their qualifications and political affiliations. It also noted a weakening of case foundations due to the failure to file charges corresponding to specific crimes. The study highlighted that unlawful arrests and remands persist, with detainees and lawyers facing attacks in court.
Additionally, the report criticized the prevailing impunity surrounding incidents between July 15 and August 8, revealing evidence of widespread retaliatory detentions and bail denials.
