Dhaka, Nov 02 (V7N)- Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain, Religious Affairs Advisor to the government, said on Sunday that the upcoming election atmosphere has prompted the postponement of the Tablighi Jamaat Ijtema. After discussions with both factions of the group, it has been agreed that the event will be organized after the elections.
Speaking at a briefing at the Secretariat, Dr. Hossain said, “We are heading towards the elections. The government is preparing for free and fair elections. For now, there are no plans to postpone the polls. Discussions with political parties are ongoing, and no major disagreements have arisen.”
Responding to questions about the National Citizens Party (NCP) and the July Charter, he noted, “Talks with the party are continuing. Although the door is currently closed, it will open soon.”
Regarding Dr. Zakir Naik’s visit to Bangladesh, the advisor clarified that it is not under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, but is handled by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs, adding, “My personal preferences are not relevant in this matter.”
