Foreign Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Hasan Mahmud assured on Saturday that Bangladesh is making concerted efforts to rescue the sailors aboard MV Abdullah without causing any harm to them or the ship.

During a meeting in Chittagong, Mahmud addressed the situation, recalling the previous hijacking of MV Jahan Moni, which took 100 days to resolve. He emphasized the urgency of the current rescue mission and highlighted the challenges posed by the flammable cargo onboard MV Abdullah.

Mahmud mentioned that the hijackers have been in contact with the ship's authorities, and international organizations are providing assistance. He assured that efforts are underway to reassure the families of the sailors and expressed hope for a swift resolution.

On another note, Mahmud criticized the boycott of Indian products by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), alleging that it aims to destabilize the market and inflate prices of essentials, ultimately causing hardship to the people. He pointed out the irony of BNP's stance, noting the extensive reliance on Indian products in Bangladesh and accusing the party of hypocrisy.

Mahmud cited instances where BNP leaders themselves engage with Indian products while advocating for their boycott, highlighting what he sees as a contradiction in their stance. He also referenced a recent incident involving a BNP leader burning a shawl, questioning its origin and implying skepticism regarding claims of boycotting Indian goods.
