Dhaka, Feb 18 (V7N) — China and India have congratulated Dr. Khalilur Rahman on his appointment as Bangladesh’s new Foreign Minister, expressing their eagerness to work closely with him to strengthen bilateral relations.

A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (February 18) stated that Chinese Foreign Minister and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Wang Yi and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar conveyed their congratulations in separate messages.

In his message, Wang Yi expressed willingness to collaborate with Dr. Rahman in implementing decisions taken by the top leaders of China and Bangladesh, aiming to elevate the China-Bangladesh “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” to a new level. He emphasized the importance Beijing attaches to relations with Dhaka and reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.

Similarly, S. Jaishankar highlighted the long-standing and multifaceted relationship between India and Bangladesh. He expressed hope that bilateral communication and cooperation on matters of mutual interest will further increase under Dr. Rahman’s leadership, and emphasized India’s keenness to work together for the progress and prosperity of both nations.

Dr. Khalilur Rahman officially took charge as Foreign Minister following the formation of the new government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
