Dhaka, March 25, (V7N) — Bangladesh’s President, Mohammed Shahabuddin, and his spouse, Dr. Rebeka Sultana, will host a grand reception at the Bangabhaban tomorrow to celebrate the 56th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to attend the reception, which will be held in the afternoon at the green lawns of the presidential palace, Bangabhaban, according to a spokesman familiar with the event.

Over 15,000 guests, including cabinet members, political leaders, ambassadors, high commissioners from various countries, Supreme Court judges, military chiefs, members of parliament, academics, business leaders, artists, and distinguished citizens, have been invited. The guest list also includes valiant Freedom Fighters and family members of Birshreshtha gallantry award recipients.

March 26, the day of independence, holds deep historical significance, marking a tragic chapter in Bangladesh’s history. The events began on the night of March 25, 1971, with a brutal crackdown that led to a bloody nine-month struggle, ultimately achieving independence on December 16, 1971, at a tremendous cost of lives.

During the event, the President and Prime Minister will cut a cake to commemorate the occasion, followed by exchanging greetings with wounded freedom fighters and other dignitaries. A cultural programme will be held, accompanied by light refreshments for the guests.

This event serves as an important reminder of the sacrifices made during Bangladesh's fight for independence, honoring the heroes who fought for the nation’s sovereignty.
