The body of Anwarul Azim Anar, the Member of Parliament for the Jhenaidah-4 constituency, was discovered by Kolkata police in an abandoned house in Kolkata's New Town early this morning, eight days after he was reported missing in India. The confirmation came from a deputy police commissioner of Kolkata police.
Azim's daughter, Mumtarin Ferdous Doreen, who is currently in Kolkata, rushed to the scene upon hearing the news.
Azim had traveled to India for medical reasons on May 12 and went missing the following day, according to his family. On May 19, Doreen held a press conference seeking assistance from the detective branch (DB) of the police to locate her father.
The DB police collaborated with Indian authorities in the search for MP Azim. DB Chief Harun-or-Rashid stated that Azim entered India through the Darshana-Gede border on May 12 and stayed at the residence of a man named Gopal. Azim left Gopal's house after breakfast the next day but did not return as expected that evening.
