Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has requested Finland's support in maintaining GSP+ advantages from the European Union to facilitate Bangladesh's transition from a Least Developed Country (LDC) to a developing nation.

During a meeting with Finland's Non-resident Ambassador-designate to Bangladesh, Kimmo Lahdevirta, at her official residence, Hasina highlighted Bangladesh's scheduled graduation in 2026 and recalled her visits to Finland in 2008 and 2019.

She praised the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and expressed concern over the declining international financial assistance for the Rohingya crisis due to global conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the increasing number of Rohingyas in Bangladesh.

The Finnish envoy expressed interest in investing in Bangladesh's energy and IT sectors, particularly in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and electric grid management. A Finnish business delegation is expected to visit Dhaka soon to explore investment opportunities.
