Dhaka, Aug 10 (V7N)– The testimony of eight accused in the crimes against humanity case over the Chankharpul shooting, which left six people dead during the August 5 coup last year, has been postponed. The three-member Tribunal-1, headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortaza Majumder, has rescheduled the opening statement and testimony to Monday (August 11).
The proceedings were initially set to begin today (Sunday), but the tribunal delayed them by a day.
Earlier this morning, four arrested accused were produced before the court — dismissed Inspector Arshad of Shahbagh Police Station and constables Sujan, Imaz Hossain Emon, and Nasirul. The remaining four accused, including former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman Habib, remain absconding.
On April 21, the investigation agency submitted its full report to the tribunal, charging eight individuals in the case. Subsequently, on July 14, the tribunal dismissed the defendants’ plea for acquittal and ordered the trial to proceed by framing charges.
