The Bangladeshi government has decided to create a database aimed at enhancing coordination among international development partners active in the country. This decision was made during a meeting of the Local Consultative Group (LCG) on Climate Change and Environment (CCE), chaired by Environment Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed, at the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.

The database will catalog current activities and future project interests of development partners, thereby preventing duplication and overlapping of efforts. Thematic area-based working groups will be established to increase operational efficiency. A special workshop will soon be organized to streamline the activities of the Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership (BCDF), as per a ministry press release.

The meeting emphasized the importance of avoiding redundancy in the activities of the BCDP and LCG's working groups to maximize the use of limited resources through collaborative efforts. The LCG group pledged full support to the BCDP board in future initiatives.

Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed highlighted the necessity for immediate support from development partners to enhance the capacity of officials, particularly for international conferences and other tasks. She emphasized the government's initiatives to strengthen relationships with international development partners, non-governmental organizations, and civil society organizations. Dr. Ahmed expressed optimism that collaborative efforts between the government and development partners would lead to significant achievements.

Attendees included Additional Secretary (Administration) Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Additional Secretary (Development) Md Mosharraf Hossain, Additional Secretary (EPC) Tapan Kumar Biswas, Additional Secretary (Environment) Dr. Fahmida Khanom, newly elected Vice-President of the LCG Nayoka Martinez Backstrom from the Swedish Embassy, and representatives from various ministries and 33 development partner organizations, including the EU, UN Women, IOM, ADB, USAID, UNICEF, UNCDF, JICA, GIZ, and the US, Danish, and Swedish Embassies.
