On Thursday, Nepalese police apprehended Siam Hossain, a key suspect in the murder of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar. Hossain was believed to have fled to Kathmandu following the incident. The Bangladesh Embassy is actively working on Siam's extradition, according to reports from Prothom Alo.
In response, a four-member team from the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been dispatched to Kathmandu. DB Chief Additional Commissioner Harunor Rashid confirmed Siam’s arrest and indicated the possibility that other suspects might also have escaped to Nepal.
Earlier, Indian police mistakenly arrested another individual, a butcher named Jihad, thinking he was Siam.
MP Anar crossed the Darshana-Gede border for treatment on May 12, staying at a friend's house in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. He went missing after sending a misleading WhatsApp message, and his death was confirmed by Indian police on May 22.
