Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal emphasized that the Election Commission's ability to conduct fair elections is limited without political support from the state and government. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation from Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Sunday, he highlighted the necessity of cooperation from administrative and law enforcement agencies.
Kazi Habibul Awal stated, “The Election Commission tries its best, but its capacity is limited. Political backing is essential for the administration and law enforcement agencies to fulfill their duties effectively.”
During the meeting, the CEC addressed the need for political dialogue, noting, “There is a noticeable lack of discussion between political parties, marked by evident hostility. This animosity hinders progress. Civil society, including TIB, can play a crucial role in facilitating dialogue.”
The TIB delegation, led by Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman, discussed the importance of transparency in elections and the disclosure of accurate information in affidavits.
