Dhaka, September 04- In a tragic incident linked to the ongoing drug trade and power struggles in the Geneva Camp area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, an autorickshaw driver named Md. Sonu (32) was killed on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 8:00 AM.

According to family members, Sonu was involved in a violent clash with a group of 40 to 50 individuals, including notorious local drug dealers Bunia Sohail, Rana, Tuntun, and Babu. The altercation took place near a shop known as Kamal Biryani, where Sonu was reportedly shot by Bunia Sohail.

Sonu was immediately rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. However, despite the efforts of the medical team, he was declared dead upon arrival.

Sonu's cousin, Sajeev, provided further details, stating that the conflict was rooted in the area's pervasive drug trade. Sonu, who resided in sector number 5 of Geneva Camp, became a victim of this ongoing struggle for dominance.

Bachchu Mia, the in-charge inspector of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed that Sonu's body has been kept in the hospital's morgue. The incident has been reported to Mohammadpur police station, where further investigations are expected to take place.

This killing highlights the severe challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing the drug trade and associated violence in Dhaka's Geneva Camp, a long-standing problem that continues to claim lives and disrupt the community.
