Dhaka, Sept 7 (V7N): As of September 5, a total of 5,818 weapons have been looted across Bangladesh, including in Dhaka, according to a report from the Police Headquarters. Out of these, 3,933 weapons have been recovered, while 1,885 remain missing. In addition, nearly 300,000 rounds of looted ammunition are yet to be retrieved.

The looting occurred following the fall of the Awami League government during a student-led uprising, with rioters targeting police stations, setting fires, and stealing weapons and ammunition.

The deadline for voluntarily surrendering the weapons was September 3. Since then, a joint task force has been conducting operations to recover the stolen and illegal arms.

Unrecovered Weapons:

  • Chinese Rifles: 296 not recovered
  • Bangladeshi Rifles: 1 not recovered
  • Submachine Guns (SMGs): 60 not recovered
  • Light Machine Guns (LMGs): 11 not recovered
  • Pistols: 825 not recovered
  • 9x19mm SMG/SMT: 1 not recovered
  • Shotguns: 67 not recovered
  • Gas Guns: 117 not recovered
  • Tear Gas Launchers (Six Shot): 5 not recovered
  • Signal Pistols: 2 not recovered

Unrecovered Ammunition:

  • Various Caliber Bullets: 294,405 not recovered
  • Tear Gas Shells: 8,811 not recovered
  • Tear Gas Grenades: 751 not recovered
  • Sound Grenades: 2,564 not recovered
  • Color Smoke Grenades: 78 not recovered
  • Multiple Bang Stun Grenades: 37 not recovered
  • Flash Bang Grenades: 360 not recovered
  • Handheld Tear Gas Sprays (Canisters): 83 not recovered

The ongoing operation to recover these weapons and ammunition involves multiple forces, including the Bangladesh Army, Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Bangladesh Ansar, Village Defense Forces, Coast Guard, and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
