Dhaka, Sep 18 (V7N) – Bangladesh has called on Indonesia to reopen the 'Visa on Arrival' facility for its citizens, Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain stated during a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador Heru Hartantu Sublo in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The discussion, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also emphasised the need for establishing direct air connectivity between Dhaka and Jakarta to enhance trade between the two countries.

Both officials acknowledged the robust bilateral relationship and discussed areas of cooperation, including trade, investment, renewable energy, and people-to-people ties. The Indonesian ambassador commended the growing trade and investment exchanges between the nations.

Touhid Hossain expressed gratitude for Indonesia’s potential involvement in Bangladesh’s energy sector, including electricity and energy security. He also underlined the importance of finalising pending agreements, such as the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), to further strengthen economic ties.

Reiterating their commitment to a strong partnership, both sides agreed to work towards deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

In the past, Bangladeshis enjoyed visa-free entry into Indonesia. However, this facility has been suspended, and there is now a push to restore the 'Visa on Arrival' system.
