The Electronics Safety and Security Association of Bangladesh (ESSAB) successfully hosted a two-day training session on June 7-8 focused on Fire Safety Requirements as outlined in the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC) 2020. Held at the ESSAB office in Dhaka, the event drew participants from a range of industries and institutions. The primary aim was to enhance awareness about the significance of adhering to the BNBC, particularly its fire safety standards, according to a press release.
The training sessions featured expert-led discussions by Md. Anwar Hossain, Assistant Director of Warehouse and Fire Prevention at FSCD; Arch Dewan Shamsul Arif, Owner of Vista Architectural Consultant and Lecturer at Brac University; Engr. Md. Al-Emran Hossain, Member of ASHRAF, NFPA, AMTA, and the IMPMO; and Engr. Fazlul Bari, Member of NFPS and ASHRAF.
Md. Amin Helaly, Senior Vice President of FBCCI, attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest. In his address, Helaly underscored the critical importance of fire safety in building design and maintenance, emphasizing that compliance with BNBC 2020 fire safety standards is both a regulatory necessity and a moral duty to safeguard lives and property.
ESSAB President and FBCCI Director Md. Niaz Aly Chisty also spoke at the event, reiterating ESSAB's dedication to improving safety standards nationwide. "Through initiatives like this training program, we aim to provide industry professionals with the essential knowledge and skills to implement effective fire safety measures, fostering a culture of safety and preparedness across all sectors," Chisty said.
Chisty also highlighted the importance of capacity building, skill enhancement, and training for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). He mentioned upcoming plans to launch educational programs in schools in Dhaka and Chittagong to promote fire safety awareness and emergency response skills.
The closing ceremony was moderated by ESSAB Secretary General Zakir Uddin Ahmed. Other notable attendees included ESSAB Senior Vice President SM Shahjahan Saju, Vice President Mohammad Faisal Mahmud, Engr. M. Mahmudur Rashid, Joint Secretary General Md. Mahmood-E-Khoda, Treasurer Md. Noor Nabi, Publicity Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam, Director Md. Wahid Uddin, Eng. Md. Al-Emran Hossain, Md. Rafiqul Islam, business leaders, and various dignitaries.
Participants found the training program highly informative, gaining valuable insights into the latest fire safety protocols and practices as mandated by the BNBC 2020.
