FEB 12 (V7N) - Election management committee member Zahidur Rahman announced Thursday that Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Dr. Shafiqur Rahman (Scales symbol) secured 82,645 votes in Dhaka-15 constituency.

His nearest rival, Shafiqul Islam Milton, received 61,920 votes, leaving Jamaat’s candidate ahead by a margin of 20,725 votes.

Dhaka-15 has 351,718 registered voters — 179,616 men and 172,098 women. Voting took place across 173 centres throughout the day, ending at 4 p.m. Counting began immediately afterward.

Results from larger centres are still pending, and tension remains among voters and political activists as they await the final announcement.
