DHAKA, March 30 (V7N) – The second meeting of the parliamentary committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was held today with committee chairman and chief whip M Nurul Islam in the chair.
Committee members Rakibul Islam, Mia Nuruddin Ahamed Apu, Mohammad Kaiser Ahmed, M Shahidul Islam, Nayab Yusuf Ahmed, SM Jahangir Hossain, M Oli Ullah, M Saiful Alam and M Abul Hasnat participated in the meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Discussions focused on the progress of renovation and repair works related to civil, E/M and wood factory departments for allotment of residences for parliament members at Manik Mia Avenue and Nakhalpara. The meeting also reviewed renovation and allotment of 156 office rooms at the MP hostels in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, and emphasized the need for adequate specialized doctors and medical officers at the parliament medical center to ensure emergency healthcare services for MPs.
Strengthening 24-hour security arrangements at MPs’ flats in Manik Mia Avenue and Nakhalpara, along with posting required manpower in line with parliamentary tradition, was also discussed.
Two sub-committees were formed to identify sound system problems in the parliament session room and to verify the food quality of the parliament Bhaban canteen, water supply quality, and furniture standards. Rakibul Islam and Nayab Yusuf Ahmed were named conveners.
The committee directed authorities to maintain integrity in purchasing furniture, ensuring quality while keeping procurement costs rational. It also asked for expedited work to allot residences for MPs by April 10.
Additional secretary of the parliament secretariat, chief engineer of the public works department, sergeant at arms, additional chief engineer, and other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
