"Bangladesh imported 25 tonnes of potatoes from India on Sunday to stabilize prices. The government had earlier permitted potato imports"

The government's attempt to stabilize potato prices was demonstrated on Sunday, February 4th, when a shipment of 25 tonnes of potatoes from India landed at Hili Land Port in Dinajpur.

Harun Ur Rashid, President of the Hili Land Port Importer-Exporter Group, confirmed the government's approval for importing 34,000 tonnes of potatoes through the port.

This initial consignment is the first to enter Bangladesh, with three more trucks carrying approximately 75 tonnes of potatoes expected later on Sundyday.

The government had initially permitted potato imports on October 30 last year to address market fluctuations due to low supply.

Imports through the port resumed Monday following a brief stop since December 15. The import deadline, which was originally scheduled for November 30 was extended to December 15.
