Dhaka, Nov 28 (V7N)- The Secretariat Officers-Employees Joint Council has announced a general meeting to be held on Wednesday, December 4, to press for nine key demands. These include the formation of a national pay commission, addressing salary disparities, and ensuring proper promotions.
The announcement was made today at a program held at the Secretariat’s 'Badam Tala' by the council’s president, Md. Badiul Kabir. He emphasized the urgency of the demands, warning of continued pressure if they are not addressed promptly.
"We are resolute in realizing our demands. We urge the authorities to act without delay," Kabir stated. He also called for the removal of a joint secretary accused of delaying progress on their demands and misconduct.
The council's nine-point charter includes:
- Formation of a National Pay Commission: Inclusion of employee representatives to address salary disparities.
- Reduction of Salary Grades: Restructuring the current 20 grades to 10 grades.
- 50% Dearness Allowance: Adjustment to reflect inflation and cost-of-living changes.
- Restoration of Pension Benefits: Reinstating 100% pension and 400% gratuity benefits.
- Reintroduction of Time-Scale and Selection Grades: For enhanced career progression.
- Employment Age Limit Extension: Increasing the age limit from 59 to 62 years.
- Proper Promotions: Implementation of fair and timely promotions.
- Grievance Redressal Mechanism: Addressing administrative delays and inefficiencies.
- Improved Welfare Measures: Enhancing work conditions and employee support.
The council stressed that the demands are aimed at improving the morale and welfare of Secretariat employees, as well as ensuring better efficiency in governance.
The meeting on December 4 is expected to draw significant attention, with employees from across the Secretariat likely to join in solidarity. The authorities have not yet issued an official response to the demands.
