Dhaka, Mar 24 (V7N) – With Eid just around the corner, train services for the Eid pilgrimage have officially begun, allowing city dwellers to head home with their families. Passengers, who had purchased advance tickets, expressed their desire for a safe journey and a joyous Eid celebration with their loved ones.

On Monday (March 24), a total of 43 intercity trains are scheduled to depart from Dhaka for various destinations across the country. Special security measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth and safe journey for all passengers. However, unlike previous years, bus terminals have not yet seen a rush of long-distance travelers.

At railway stations, joyous smiles could be seen on the faces of passengers peeking through train windows. The excitement of children reflects the essence of Eid—returning home to family and tradition.

For seven-year-old Zara Noor, this Eid is extra special. She is traveling to her grandfather’s house for the first time in seven years and is eagerly looking forward to reuniting with family.

Three-and-a-half-year-old Fabiha Islam Rafa is also heading to her parents’ village home, while another young traveler, Jim, is excited to celebrate Eid with his family. However, with exams scheduled right after Eid, he will have to return to the city sooner than he’d like.

The festive mood is not limited to children—adults too are filled with anticipation as they set off to celebrate Eid with their families.

Monday marked the first day of Eid train journeys, starting with the departure of the Dhumketu Express to Rajshahi at 6 AM. With 43 intercity trains scheduled to leave Dhaka, the Bangladesh Railway is operating at full capacity to accommodate the rush. Additionally, ticket sales for the return journey have also begun today.

Unlike the railway stations, bus terminals remain relatively quiet. Many employees are sending their women and children ahead of time to avoid the last-minute Eid travel rush.

The government has announced a 9-day holiday starting from March 28, which could lead to a massive surge in travelers towards the end of the week. Transport operators are expecting the rush to peak just before Eid.
