The Chattogram Journalists Union (CUJ) has vehemently denounced the savage attacks that transpired against two journalists while they were performing their responsibilities in Chattogram.
General Secretary M. Shamsul Islam and CUJ President Tapon Chakraborty called for the prompt apprehension of those responsible for the attacks and the administration of justice in a statement released on Monday, April 22.
They expressed worry, stating that the events have created substantial doubts over the safety of journalists as they carry out their official responsibilities, hence presenting a major risk to the media and reporter profession.
They also pleaded with the authorities to apprehend the named persons responsible for the two journalists' attacks as soon as possible.
Notably, Selim Ullah, a staff reporter and cameraperson for Channel 24 and a member of CUJ, was assaulted during the filming of the collision on Sunday night, April 21, at around ten o'clock, amid fighting between two terrorist organisations in the city's Monsurabad area.
But, terrorists assaulted CUJ member and Chattogram Pratidin staff reporter Rimon Sakhawat on Monday afternoon at three o'clock when a video was being recorded on the illicit water business in the West Nimtala neighbourhood near the city's Bandar police station. It was then when the terrorists tried to ensnab him.
