Dhaka, July 10 (V7N)- At least twenty-five people were injured in a violent clash on Wednesday between followers of the Commissioner of Ward 33 and residents of the Sweeper Colony in the capital's Bangshal. The conflict erupted over an eviction operation being carried out by the city corporation.
 
The injured are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals, including Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
 
Sweeper Shubodas, one of the injured, described the escalating tension in the colony due to the impending eviction. "The threat from the commissioner's men heightened our fears," Shubodas explained. "This morning, the South City Corporation handed over the keys to 72 new rooms in our colony. After the program, hundreds of the commissioner's supporters tried to enter, and we obstructed them."
 
"When we blocked them, they hurled bricks at us, causing several injuries," he added.
 
Among the injured are Shubodas, 36, Karan, 22, Niranjan, 65, Niloy Das, 18, Ripon Das, 25, Ajay Kumar, 22, Veeru Das, 44, Sakal Das, 24, Manoj Kumar, 30, and Sameer Das, 35.
 
A supporter of Commissioner Haji Awal Hossain recounted that they went to the colony to discuss an unresolved issue. "The sweepers asked us to leave, and then they threw bricks from the top of the building, injuring at least ten of us," he said.
 
Four of the commissioner's supporters were later sent to DMCH for treatment. They are Maqbul Hossain, 50, former Jubo League organizing secretary of Ward 33, and members of the Asad Gate AL unit Md Nayem, 40, Md Rubel, 38, and Rubel Gazi, 35.
 
Bachchu Mia, in charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed that around 20-25 people received treatment at Dhaka Medical following the clash at Bangshal Sweeper Colony. The incident has been reported to the Bangshal police station for further investigation.
