According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC), water levels have risen in 64 river stations and fallen in 43, out of the 110 stations monitored. Levels at three stations remained unchanged, while 19 stations are above the danger level, as reported in a bulletin released by the FFWC on Thursday.

The rivers exceeding danger levels include:

  • Dharia River at Kurigram: 2cm
  • Ghagot River at Gaibandha: 11cm
  • Brahmaputra River at Noonkhawa, Hatia, Chilmari: 69cm, 63cm, 62cm respectively
  • Jamuna River at Fulchari, Bahadurabad, Saghata, Sariakandi, Serajganj: 62cm, 62cm, 53cm, 19cm, 5cm respectively
  • Surma River at Kanaighat, Sylhet: 69cm, 9cm respectively
  • Kushiyara River at Amalshid, Sheola, Sherpur-Sylhet, Markuli: 154cm, 46cm, 18cm, 37cm respectively
  • Manu River at Moulvibazar: 1cm
  • Old Surma at Derai: 8cm
  • Someshwari at Kalmakanda: 44cm

The Brahmaputra-Jamuna and Ganges-Padma rivers are expected to keep rising over the next 72 hours. The northeastern rivers, except Kushiyara, are likely to continue falling in the next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall is predicted in the northern region and adjoining upstream parts, with potential for heavy rainfall in the northeastern region over the next 48 hours.

In the next 24 hours, flood conditions may worsen in low-lying areas along the Brahmaputra-Jamuna in Kurigram, Jamalpur, Gaibandha, Bogra, and Sirajganj districts, possibly crossing danger levels in Tangail district. Meanwhile, the northeastern region's low-lying areas may remain stable.

The Teesta, Dharla, Ghagot, and Dudhkumar rivers in the northern region may rise rapidly within 48 hours, potentially crossing danger levels briefly. Flood situations in low-lying areas along Dharla and Ghagot in Kurigram and Gaibandha may slightly deteriorate.

The Jamuneswari, Karatoa, Bangali, Upper Karotoa, Punarbhaba, Tangon, Ichamoti-Jamuna, Atrai, Mohananda, and Little-Jamuna rivers in the northern and northwestern regions may also rise rapidly within 48 hours.

Significant rainfall was recorded at several stations in the last 24 hours, including 75mm in Durgapur (Netrokona), 64mm in Cox's Bazar and Chapai Nawabganj, and 55mm in Faridpur. Heavy rainfall was also reported in West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal, and Meghalaya, India.
